I. Teacher's Beliefs about Language

Teacher's beliefs about  language learning and teaching

Ajarn Dr: Malinee Assignment  :

Select 5 statements that most closely reflect your beliefs about how English as a Second Language  is learnt and how English as a Second Language should be taught.

Apiwat's answer:

After reading 15 teacher's beliefs Inventory, I exactly believe only 5 of them.
I'll write respectively from the one I believe the most to the least, then the rest I DON'T believe later on but I'll give the reason why I consider them "truthless beliefs".

Number 7,8, and 14 tell us that language is the tool of communication, if we can interact orally with using some basic grammatical rules to generate sentences. For me, I think that we achieve the main purpose of language.
Number 7 Language can be thought of as meaningful communication and is learned subconsciously
in non-academic, social situations.
Number 8 If ESL students understands SOME of the basic grammatical rules of the language, they can usually create lots of new sentences on their own.

Number 14 ESL students usually need to master some of the basic listening and speaking skills
before they can begin to read and write.
Number 11 and 5 tell us that if we would like to use language more fluent and in variety of situation, then we have to master more the grammatical rules in order that we could generate various kinds of sentences both orally and in written form.
Number 11 It is important to provide clear, frequent, precise presentations of grammatical structures
during English language instruction.
Number 5 ESL students generally need to understand the grammatical rules of English in order to
become fluent in the language.

To summarize my beliefs about ESL instruction, language is the tool of communication, which we can learn it subconsciously through social situation; starting by listening and replying. As long as the utterance string is meaningful, ESL students succeed in using language. To make their language more fluent in case that they have to use it in more formal situation, they have to learn more about grammatical rules in order to master their language.

As the interpretation of teacher' conceptions according to teacher beliefs, I think I'm in the communicative conception group.
